Matangi String Quartet plays Haydn, Sieben letste Worten (VII LW).
During the Covid19 period Matangi String Quartet were not able to perform their version of Haydn’s Seven last words in public. This music piece was composed portraying the last moments of Jesus on the cross, before he dies. Matangi’s resilience is inspirational, they decided if we can’t perform, we can still make a short film and asked me what was possible. I came up with this version, combining an empty concert hall, the instruments waiting for the musicians to arrive. The seven last words, which were hand carved by designer Marcel van den Broek, were already created for the CD package, so we could use that. I brought everything to life on the music of the final piece Terremoto, in which the earth starts shaking and Jesus dies on the cross.
